MONDEIK MASTERS NORWAY LATE MODELS – PETERSON SCORES SUPER STOCK MAIN
(Norway, MI) May 27 – Gleason, Wisconsin’s Justin Mondeik charged from 16th and passed race long leader Scott Stanchina for the lead on lap 24 and went on to capture the opening night late model feature at Norway Michigan Friday night.
Marinette, Wisconsin’s Kevin Peterson captured the caution free super stock main while The Kingsford brother duo of Brent and Brad Barglind went 1-2 in the sport truck division features, respectively.
The late model main was slowed by four cautions within the first 15 laps. On a lap 15 restart Mondeik threaded hia s way through traffic to 5th and worked his way up to 2nd by lap 22. Two circuits later Mondeik motored past Stanchina for the lead.
The race was halted on lap 30 following a crash near the turn three entrance. The race was called with five laps remaining due to a medical situation in the pit area. As a result, the stock car and 4 banger features were canceled.
Next Friday night June 3 racing resumes with the action getting underway at 7 p.m. Spectator eliminators will be an added attraction to the program.
