When the first green flag flies at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, Wisconsin Friday, May 6 there is a guarantee that there will be a minimum of three new champions crowned by year’s end.

That’s because only two of the ’21 champions (Hortonville’s Ryan Schmidt and Beaver Dam’s James Fletcher) plan on defending their IMCA northern sportmod and Unified street stock crowns, respectively – opening the door for a new trio of champs and possibly more.

The track’s defending IMCA modified champion, Tyler Wilson of Sobieski, plans on chasing titles at other area ovals in 2022. Wilson got his season started off on the right foot – scoring the opening night victory at Gravity Park USA in Chilton April 29.

Former IMCA national stock car champion and Outagamie defending titlist Brandon Czarapata does not plan a full-time campaign of racing in ’22, opening the door for yet another new champion come Labor day weekend in the class dubbed “Too-Tough-To-Tame.”

Green Bay’s Tony Everard, the track’s defending IMCA sport compact champion, plans on competing weekly yet at Outagamie but has moved up to the Unified street stock class. He will chase the Friday night title at Seymour along with running full time at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay as well. Everard’s departure from the 4-cylinder division will create an opportunity for a new champion.

Fletcher will continue to tow north weekly on Fridays from his hometown Beaver Dam to defend what is once again expected to be a stout field of street stock competitors. Schmidt is in the same boat in the sportmod class, where an abundance of local cars exists, and the competition is expected to be tough week-to-week in the Hortonville driver’s title defense.

The season opening race is scheduled for Friday, May 6 with racing set for 6:30 p.m. at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds. The pit area opens at 4 p.m. with the main grandstand opening at 5 p.m. Motorports author Joe Verdegan will host a signing of his Amazon No. 1 best selling book “5-10-32 McBride, Parker & Anvelink” featuring a trio of local, late model icons who had success at Seymour throughout the decades. Verdegan’s signing will be under the grandstand at 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The track’s weekly program is operated by Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car (EWSC). The track’s title sponsors for 2022 include Klink Equipment, Elite Coatings Inc. & Kunes RV.
