In 1990 promoter Steve Rudolph reopened the Chilton Speedway, a 1/4 mile dirt bullring located at the Calumet County Fairgrounds.

Rudolph had one class and one class only – the Grand Nationals. Rudolph saw the car as a more affordable weekly division headliner compared to the more costly late models or sprint cars at that time.

In episode 13 of the Mike Randerson podcast series, Mike talks about the early 1990’s and the explosion of this new division which also was the precursor to the Mid American stock car series on pavement. Good stuff here! Give it a listen!
