(Freedom, Wisconsin native is former Alan Kulwicki car/crew chief, noted car builder)
(Dunbar, WI) Sept. 29 – A podcast series featuring accomplished race car builder and former Alan Kulwicki crew chief Mike Randerson is set to be launched at joeverdegan.com Monday, October 4.
Randerson, a native of Freedom, Wisconsin, was the car builder and crew chief for the Milwaukee native and 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup champion during Kulwicki’s Fox River Racing Club late model titles at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna in 1980. The list of the many championship drivers Randerson has built cars for over the years reads like a true ‘who’s who’ on both paved and dirt short tracks across the United States.
Among those who’ve wheeled Randerson’s race cars over the years on the pavement include the winningest driver in the history of WIR Terry Baldry of Omro, Green Bay native Scott Hansen, Upper Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer Bob Iverson of Escanaba, Michigan Kingsford, Michigan’s Kent Pearson, Neenah’s Lowell Bennett, Milton’s Dave Watson and many others.
Also, a little-known fact was Randerson worked with the winningest short track racer of all-time – Wisconsin Rapids Dick Trickle. Although their relationship was more so a ‘covert’ operation of sorts.
Dirt track standouts who Randerson had a significant influence at some point in their careers include National Hall of Famer Pete Parker of Kaukauna, Navarino’s Terry Anvelink, Mondovi’s Leon Plank, Tom Steuding, Adell’s Mike Melius, New London’s Roger Paul, Medina’s Jerry Smith and Menasha’s Gary Roehborn including many others.
In a series of interviews conducted with motorsports journalist Joe Verdegan, Randerson tells his stories from his humble beginnings growing up on a farm and building race cars in a small garage and eventually expanding to RanderCar Racing Enterprises.
The series podcasts will be released at joeverdegan.com every Monday at 10 a.m. beginning October 4. The series interview segments will run through the remaining months of 2021. The audio segments are easily accessible on most mobile devices and computers and are always free of charge to listen to.
