“Mighty” Mike Mullen the Master at Outagamie Speedway By Edward Anschutz (Seymour, WI) August 6, 2021 Race Report- for the second week in a row “Mighty” Mike Mullen took the checkers in the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars at Outagamie Speedway presented by Klink Equipment & Elite Coatings Inc.– 112 cars checked in to do battle at the fairgrounds. There were 21 IMCA Modifieds, 18 IMCA Stock Cars, 29 IMCA Sport Mods, 21 IMCA Sport Compacts and 23 Unified Street Stocks.
“J-Money” Josh Long opened the IMCA Modified headliner by taking the lead at the drop of the green. Defending track champion “Hitman” Johnny Whitman worked his way to the runner up spot, closing in on Long. Whitman slipped by down low, taking the lead. A caution on lap 14 slowed the field. As the race restarted a new challenger emerged in “Mighty” Mike Mullen. Mullen was able to work his way around Whitman with 3 laps remaining. Whitman kept the pressure on the entire way to the checkers but when the dust settled it was once again Mullen standing tall in victory lane with his fourth victory of the season. Whitman placed a close second, Long was third, Vince Engebregtsen took fourth and Brian Mullen completed the top five.
For the second week in a row “Mighty” Mike Mullen set the pace in the IMCA Stock Car feature as he raced around Tyler Wendt for the lead on lap 3. Mullen pulled away leaving the battle for second between Brett Wenzel, Rod Snellenberger and point leader Brandon Czarapata. A caution on lap 12 bunched the field. In the end no one was a match for Mullen as he easily picked up his 2nd Stock Car win in a row. Snellenberger won the battle for second, Czarapata was third, Wenzel placed fourth and Kevin Hebbe brought home fifth.
Skyler Woods raced around Jesse Cullen to take the lead on the 3rd lap of the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Woods began to pull away from the field, racing through heavy lap traffic. A caution on lap 17 set up a 3 lap dash to the checker. Woods was up for the challenge, once again pulling away from the field to score his second feature of the season. Point leader Ryan Schmidt placed second, Jesse Cullen took third, Jake Carpenter was fourth and Cory Kemkes rounded out the top five.
Bailey Tate raced around Jamie Van Ooyen to lead the field of IMCA Sport Compacts on lap 4. Tate held all competitors at bay to score a clean sweep on the night for his first career feature win. Thomas Schulte placed a strong second, TJ Everard took third, Michael Brehmer placed was fourth and with a fifth place finish Tony Everard took over the point lead.
In Unified Dirt Street Stock action, it was Jesse Krahn holding off a hard charging Brooke Diefenthaler to claim his 8th feature win of the season. Diefenthaler was a close second, Justin Jacobson took third, Trey Van Straten was fourth and point leader James Fletcher placed fifth.
Our next night of racing is on Friday August 13, 2021. Only 4 point nights remain for the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Sport Compacts and Unified Street Stocks. Racing starts at 6:30pm
