VAN OUDENHOVEN FIGHTS OFF KENDALL, COPS SECOND WIR FEATURE OF ‘21

(KAUKAUNA, WI) July 29 – Appleton’s Jeff Van Oudenhoven passed Jesse Oudenhoven for the lead on lap 18 and went on to win the super late model feature at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday.

The victory was Van Oudenhoven’s second here of the season.

Appleton’s Taylor Vandermoss shot into the lead at the drop of the green from his outside, front row starting spot in the 35 lap contest. Appleton’s Andy Monday was hot on his heels and the pair pulled away a few car lengths from the field in the first several laps.

An amber flew on lap eight when Jeff Holmgren Jr. spun on the backstretch. The spin collected the car of Randy Schuler. When racing resumed, Vandermoss maintained the lead with Oudenhoven joining Monday in pressuring Vandemross for the lead. Oudenhoven wrestled second away from Monday on lap ten and kept the heat on Vandermoss.

Oudenhoven motored around Vandermoss for the lead on lap 13 and took Bobby Kendall with him in the second spot.

A caution flew two circuits later Kyle Calmes and Lowell Bennett tangled in turn three. Calmes ‘tapped out’, admitting fault for the mishap allowing Bennett to keep his spot.

On the restart Van Oudenhoven pulled alongside of Oudenhoven to challenge for the lead. The pair swapped the lead for the next few circuits with Kendall in their rearview mirrors. Van Oudenhoven pulled into the lead at the event’s halfway point.

Kendall slipped into the second spot a couple of laps later and kept Van Oudenhoven within a few car lengths. Kendall was able to chew away at Van Oudenhoven’s lead in the final laps but the Appleton driver hung on for the win. Kendall settled for second at the pay window, followed by fast qualifier Maxwell Schultz, Monday and Grant Griesbach.

Van Oudenhoven’s margin of victory over Kendall was .366 seconds. “This the car that we’re gonna run Tuesday night in the ARCA Midwest Tour race here,” Van Oudenhoven said in victory lane. “It’s running well. We’ve got Danny Stillman coming back to serve as crew chief for us. There’s a long list of some pretty tough drivers headed up for that one.”

Hometown driver Nathan Van Wychen passed Omro’s Brian Henry with four laps remaining to win the caution free late model feature.

Fremont’s Dylan Wenzel and Neenah’s Tim Baumann split the ¼ mile late model features. Baumann’s victory was the first here of his career.

Fast qualifiers Andy Casavant of Appleton and Bobby Wautier of Denmark both captured feature wins in the super stock and sport truck classes, respectively.

Greenville’s Gavin Klein came up shy of a clean sweep in the Sizzlin’ 4s. Klein won both his heat and the feature event, but Appleton’s Scott Wolf scored fast time to start the night off, thwarting Klein’s sweep.

West Bend’s Nick Ostberg won the Figure 8s.

Next Thursday August 5 Appleton Breakfast Rotary Club night sponsors the annual Stan Gracyalny Memorial race for super stocks. Kids big wheel races are also scheduled with trophies for the winners ages 3 through 8. The action gets underway at 6:30 p.m. You can check frrc.us for more information.
