FANS HAVE CHOICES TO MAKE AUGUST 3 – WIR OR SEYMOUR? ASPHALT OR DIRT?
Posted on: Thursday July 29, 2021
On Tuesday, August 3 two Outagamie County tracks less than 30 minutes apart from each other in northeast Wisconsin will both host their biggest races of the 2021 season.
And yet, both big events are expected to do just fine, thank you.
Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna will host it’s traditional ‘Tuesday Biggie’ – this year dubbed the Gandrud Auto Group 250 with the ARCA Midwest Tour. WIR as most reading this know is a paved ½ mile.
Meanwhile a short drive north on highway 55 Outagamie Speedway in Seymour will host the World of Outlaw late model series. Seymour’s third-mile oval is dirt.
While there isn’t nearly as much crossover as there used to be years ago between the dirt and paved track fans, hardcore race fans who’d love to be at both big shows will have a choice to make that Tuesday.
A pre-entry list of 40 drivers, which includes a very diverse mix of the Midwest Tour’s regulars, some NASCAR drivers and a stout field of locals was released earlier this week by series GM Gregg McKarns for WIR’s big show. The event, which for many years was named the Dixieland Challenge, is one that fans and race teams alike circle on their calendars when the schedules come out in the off season. The Midwest Truck Series is running in conjunction with the super late models.
At Seymour this will be the second season the track has hosted the World of Outlaws. The early August date was run at nearby Shawano Speedway for several seasons and after Shawano opted not to host the event the folks at Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car (EWSC), the group that promotes the Seymour oval opted to pick the event up.
The World of Outlaws race is expected to draw all of the top series regulars, a mix of regional dirt late model stars and a handful of locals who compete at Shawano and Plymouth Dirt Track. Many of these teams will be headed west to Cedar Lake Speedway in Somerset, Wisconsin two days later to compete in the USA Nationals August 5-7.
For race fans both shows will be well worth attending. At Kaukauna Tuesday qualifying begins at 5 p.m. with the first race getting underway at 6:30 p.m. At Seymour hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with qualifying and racing to follow. Joining the field at Seymour will be the IMCA modifieds and stock cars.
At WIR an adult ticket will cost you $25 while at Seymour an adult ticket will cost $30. In this day and age of entertainment both provide a very big bang for your buck!
So wherever you go head out and support one of those short tracks Tuesday, August 3. And remember while the online streaming and all that jazz is cool NOTHING beats actually being there in person.
