KENDALL CLOBBERS SUPER LATE MODEL FOES – WINS WIR FEATURE

(KAUKAUNA, WI) July 22 – Defending super late model champion Bobby Kendall of Montello grabbed the lead on a lap four restart and kept the lead and went on to capture the super late model feature at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna Thursday.

Second generation racer Brady Baldry outraced fellow front row starter Brent Strelka into the lead at the drop of the green in the 35 lap contest. Baldry began to slowly pull away from the field but his margin was erased on lap three for a caution involving the cars of Lowell Bennett, Taylor Vandermoss and Mike Anthony.

Another yellow plagued the event one lap later when Strelka spun coming out of turn four.

On the restart Kendall sprinted into the lead and immediately began distancing himself from the pack.  Another yellow flew when Baldry looped his mount coming into the dogleg. With only six laps in the books racing resumed and Kendall keeping the top spot with Calmes and Alex Seidl in tow running second and third, respectively.

By lap 10 Kendall and Calmes began to gradually pull away from Seidl. Calmes ducked underneath Kendall on lap 12 but couldn’t muster up the pass. With 20 laps to go Seidl, Maxwell Schultz, Alex Stumpf and Braison Bennett joined the battle for the lead.

Schultz wrestled third away from Seidl on lap 15 and disposed of Calmes for the second spot two circuits later.

The Reedsville driver began to slowly reel in the defending track champion but with 12 laps remaining Kendall was able to sustain a five-car length advantage over Schultz. Kendall hung on to garner his first feature flag here of ’21.

Schultz took home second place money, followed by Stumpf, fast qualifier Jeff Van Oudenhoven and Braison Bennett.

Appleton’s Justin Woller won the caution-filled late model feature, his first career main event win at WIR.

Woller kept the lead through a bevy of wrecks and when green flag racing was underway he was hounded by California visitor Buddy Kofoid for much of the contest. Kofoid took second place, followed by Chase Randerson, Bryan Monday and Nathan Van Wychen.

Freedom’s Cody Vander Loop fought off fast qualifier Bobby Wautier of Denmark to win the sport truck feature. Wautier’s fast time thwarted Vander Loop from netting a clean sweep as Vander Loop also won his heat earlier in the night.

Menasha veteran George Schwalbach the class of the super stock field, winning that division’s main event while Wisconsin Rapids’ Mike Klein emerged triumphant in the Sizzlin’ 4 feature.

Appleton’s Jordan Gracyalny won the V6 Rovals while ‘The Showstopper’ Mike Meyerhofer won the Figure 8s.

Next Thursday July 29 it’s Werner Elcctric Supply night at the races.  The ¼ mile late models will join the track’s regular weekly divisions. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m. You can check frrc.us for more information.
