BELLAND BESTS EAGLE RIVER B MODS – CAPTURES ROUND II TRIPLE CROWN RACE

(EAGLE RIVER, WI) July 13 – Hometown driver Bruce Belland led wire-to-wire and fought off a stiff challenge from Fall Creek’s Josh Smith to capture Round II of the B Mod Triple Crown at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday night.

Belland sprinted from his pole position at the drop of the green of the 20 lap contest with Fall Creek’s Josh Smith and Jason Zdroik in toe. Smith committed to the high line while Belland hugged the bottom.

On lap seven Belland and Smith split a lapped car which allowed Jason Zdroik to close in and make it a three car scrum for the lead .  Action was halted one circuit later when the cars of Randy Theys, Pete Paulus and Stan Rychlock stacked up in turn three, drawing an amber.

On the restart Belland continued to hug the bottom groove as Smith stayed committed to the high line with Zdroik stalking both drivers close by. A caution flew two laps later for a Dustin White spin and on the restart with ten laps to go Jesse Aho squeezed into the fourth spot.

Belland, Smith and Zdroik skillfully maneuvered through a lapped car in the final laps with Belland hanging on for the win. Smith took home second at the pay window followed by Jason Zdroik, Aho and Austin Zdroik, who made his ’21 debut.

Defending champion ‘Hot Rod’ Snellenberger of Pulaski was leading the stock car feature at lap seven when heavy rains began pouring down. Snellenberger was declared the winner.

Hometown racer Tommie Springer made a triumphant return with a feature win in the 600 micro class.

Dorchester’s Oakley Schwantes scored a clean sweep in the 300 semi pro micro sprints while hometown driver Kayden ‘Bubba’ Halsey picked up the 300 pro class win.

The street stock and late model features were rained out.

Racing resumes Tuesday July 20 with Christmas In July/Mid-Season Madness night. Several door prizes will be available for the kids. Pure stocks will be added to the program. The first green flag is set to fly at 730 p.m. Fans are encouraged to please check the track’s website Facebook page or you can email patzdroik@yahoo.com or call (715) 891 1870.
