VAN OUDENHOVEN ENDS THREE YEAR DROUGHT WITH WIR FEATURE FLAG

(KAUKAUNA, WI) June 17 – Jeff Van Oudenhoven didn’t mind one bit getting a few raindrops in victory lane Thursday night at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna.

That’s because the five-time super late model champion from Appleton ended a three-year drought by leading every lap in a rain shortened, 19 lap feature at the half-mile, paved oval.

Light rain showers in the late afternoon forced Fox River Racing Club officials to scrap time trials and heat races were lined up according to the weekly point standings. With the adjusted lineup Van Oudenhoven found himself outside, front row for the start of the 25-lap contest.

Van Oudenhoven outdueled polesitter Taylor Vandermoss into the lead at the drop of the green. It didn’t take long for another former track champion – Andy Monday to motor into second place. Monday stayed within a couple of car lengths of ‘JVO’ for the first half of the contest. But with ten laps remaining Van Oudenhoven had pulled away to a comfortable enough margin over Monday and Company when a caution flew with six laps remaining for a Pete Vandermolen Jr. spin.

Rain drops started to fall and with more than half of the race’s laps completed the race was called complete and Van Oudenhoven declared the winner. The rain washed out the balance of the program.

Next Thursday night June 24 the V6 Rovals will make their second appearance of the season. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m. You can check frrc.us for more information.
