MONDEIK MUSCLES PAST BENNETT, SCORES SECOND STRAIGHT NORWAY LATE MODEL WIN

(SCHIEFELBEIN STOMPS SUPER STOCK FOES)

(Norway, MI) May June 3 – Gleason’s Justin Mondeik charged through the field from 10th, surrendered the lead to Neenah’s Braison Bennett on a restart with five laps to go and muscled his way past Bennett on the final circuit to win the late model feature at Norway Speedway Friday night.

The feature win was Mondeik’s second in as many weeks at the speedway.

For the balance of the contest it appeared Kingsford’s Scott Stanchina could run away with it. During the first half of the race Stanchina, who sprinted into the lead at the drop of the green from his outside front row starting spot, quickly put a comfortable distance between himself and balance of the field.

Meanwhile Mondeik carefully sliced his way through the field, picking up a position on average every four or five laps. Mondeik had worked his way up to second by lap 21 and passed Mondeik for the lead a few circuits later.

A yellow with ten laps remaining tightened the field and Bennett motored around both Stanchina and Mondeik to take the lead. As the white flag was unfurled Mondeik muscled his way past Bennett for the lead and the win. Bennett and Stanchina scored second and third, respectively. Kingsford drivers Bruce White and Jason Wells crossed the finish line fourth and fifth, respectively.

Pembine, Wisconsin’s Anthony Schiefelbein dodged a handful of late race cautions to score the super stock feature win.

Double features were run on both the stock car and Fab 4 classes with two of those main events rescheduled from the previous week. Stock car mains went to Gary Thom of Aurora, Wisconsin and former track champion Preston Weddel of Crivitz, Wisconsin.

Hermansville’s Dean Bellmore picked up a feature win in the Fab 4’s along with Vulcan’s Zach Gazda.

Kingsford’s Mike Singletary emerged triumphant in the spectator eliminators.

Prior to the racing action a moment of silence was observed in memory of Greg Maas, who was killed at the speedway while working his position as a corner worker in turn three.

Next Friday night June 10 racing resumes with the action getting underway at 7 p.m.  The sport trucks will be back in action along with the track’s regular divisions.
