1980 – “IT WAS A DISMAL YEAR FOR RACING”

By the time 1980 rolled around, dirt tracks at De Pere, Seymour and Oshkosh had all closed their doors within three years of each other in northeastern Wisconsin.

Car counts were dwindling at Shawano – which was the only half-mile dirt track that remained open that year.

Still, Lowell Bennett soldiered on and continued to race weekly on dirt at Shawano and pavement at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna. All with the same race car.
